While the state of Arizona has sparked a national firestorm over its tough new Immigration law, the City of Newark has quietly turned up the heat on another group of unauthorized foreigners: pushcart Ice Cream vendors. Scores of vendors who sell shaved Ice or "Coco helado" have been denied license renewals by city officials demanding they provide Social Security numbers or proof of legal U.S. residency, vendors and city officials told Ledger Live , the Star-Ledger's video webcast. 35
