t started with a crash right after the green flag fell. Then things really got chaotic at Sunday's Brickyard 400.
Kyle Busch's car was damaged when he spun on the first lap of the race, collecting a group of seven cars.
The melee tore up some of the infield grass, creating debris that apparently got caught in the grills of several other cars and caused them to overheat. Contenders such as Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski made green-flag pit stops.

Local auto racing column: Germain's Bodine extends lead in truck series
Sunday's wreck-marred, 17th-place finish at Iowa Speedway might have been the kind of afternoon to give Germain Racing's Todd Bodine heartburn.
Yet the balding man they call "the Onion" departed actually having added to his points lead in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Bodine began the race with a 55-point advantage over Aric Almirola, but now owns an 88-point lead because Almirola and other frontrunners had problems as well.

The "Under New Management" sign is up once again at Southwest Florida's only paved stock car racing oval.
